Welcome to a new chapter in your child's academic future!
The middle school enrichment program at Holy Family consists of two competitions, The Science Olympiad and the Math Olympiad.
The Science Olympiad is a 23 event national competition that lets student teams of 15 participate in several areas of science. Each team can send two members to each event. The events can be research based, engineering, or lab events. Research events require students to use any sources they wish to learn about topics such as anatomy, meteorology, and fossils. They take a test using their new found knowledge and the scores are ranked from top to bottom among the number of teams participating. Engineering events have students building balsa wood bridges or mousetrap powered cars that must conform to specific parameters and are judged by the weight they hold or the accuracy of their runs on the course provided. Lab events have students performing experiments, graphing, recording and analyzing results.
Teams begin with a regional competition and move on to state and national competitions based on total team score.
Math Olympiad is a monthly 5 questions test that challenges students in all areas of mathematics. Scores are totaled and accumulated over the course of the school year and the end total is used to rank students nationwide.
Each of these programs are an exciting way to stretch your child's mind to it's full potential in a fun and enriching way!
